One Vegan, One Canine Companion

Say hello to my little friend.

The OneVegan household has added a new resident, a 3 1/2 year old Cattle Dog mix by the name of Cassie.Cassie has a quiet personality and is a tad neurotic but she seems to like her new digs.

It has been too long

Greetings this solo vegan has been a busy one. With moving in to my new digs and attempting to manage an active social life, I have found little time to stop and reflect on all the changes. This is my first stab at living all on my lonesome. I don't miss my roommate. It was a pairing that I allowed to persist for far to long. I have no hard feelings we simply are very, very different people. I don't know I just never admitted to myself how lively my persona is/was in contrast to her. Damn my need to accept and understand. I suppose if it is a flaw that is one worth having. I'm happy to write that I've made several new mates since my debut on the Dallas queer scene. Some say good friends are hard to come by but my faith and love for humanity is constantly renewed by the positive connections I've made.

Peace and love from OneVegan.

Still OneVegan

I’ve taken a leave of absence from this blog that was more extended than I had initially anticipated. I’m just getting back to a normal routine and don’t want to overwhelm myself with too many projects. My posting from now on will be intermittent but I remain one vegan on a mission.

Sending Love in the Mail

This month I sent ma copine Melissa some treats. I thought I’d go with a most beloved VWAV recipe for peanut butter oatmeal cookies. They are a perfect mix of sweet, earth balancy, crunchy goodness. Melissa wasn’t the only one to get in on the cookie goodness. I also took a dozen or so in to work on Monday and they quickly disappeared.

Next month I’m going to totally try to sort out a recipe for the ultimate trail mix cookie. Possible ultimate trailmix cookie ingredients: Dark Chocolate chunks, White chocolate chunks, coconut, almonds, cranberries, golden raisins, cashews, pistachios, oats, pumpkin seeds and maybe papaya. Hmm or maybe I'll make my mothers Congo squares which are the queen of all chocolate chip squares. *

It is a bummer that I don’t live near a coffee house that carries fresh baked vegan treats. Everyone has a day when they need a sweet treat with their soy latte and NYTimes.

* I need to bake for a living. There are far to many people in this world eating subpar sweets.

Fall

Ok so my Vegan Harvest dinner party when off with out a hitch. I had to push somethings to the side planning wise however the menu did not suffer. I cooked up a storm. For dinner apple stuffing, pureed butternut squash and parsnips, red cabbage, mashed potatoes and a bean salad. I also made three desserts, a pear ginger cake, a cranberry pear tart and peanut butter cookies. I had to stop myself I almost made oatmeal cookies and cranberry relish but I couldn't get to the store to buy oranges. Folks started showing up around 4:30 and added more to the spread, 2 green salads, a pasta dish, squash, a pecan pie, and watermelon. Then at 5:30 with forks in hand we ate and ate some more, laughed and had an all around good time.

Only one regret I should have made more potatoes. I went back and damn there was only a teaspoon in the pot.

Where are those Pearl Jam downloads?

Outside it is a wonderfully overcast day in North Texas. We need the rain. My car at least needs the rain. I don't remember the last time I tried to wash it. I have a valid excuse, I've been on the sick list for over a month. Dirty car aside I do need to come up with a better cleaning routine of some sort. I don't want a perfect house I just want to look around and be able to find clean jockey shorts in the drawer.
